The St. Louis Rams have been an up-and-down affair this season, but they certainly seem to have Jim Harbaugh's number.
Sunday's 16-13 overtime win over the San Francisco 49ers was the product of excellent coaching by Jeff Fisher, who will close out his first campaign in St. Louis with a heady 1-0-1 record against the presumed kings of the NFC West. Their 24-24 tie in Week 10 was considered an odd and unusual setback for the 49ers, but not so fast.
Fisher has crafted his young, energized defense to handle what San Francisco brings to the table. No team runs more multiple looks on offense than Harbaugh's boys, but the Rams weren't fooled Sunday. They didn't allow the 49ers many attempts at pre-snap deception to slow a physical pass rush that kept Colin Kaepernick under pressure all afternoon.
"That was a football fight, and we did not win," Harbaugh told reporters after the game. "It will test our character as a team."
Opposing coaches might want to examine what Fisher has done in his two meetings with the 49ers this season and learn something about reducing the effectiveness of San Francisco's high-powered attack.
