The Philadelphia Eagles have fired defensive line coach Jim Washburn.
The Eagles announced the move Monday morning, one day after the team lost its eighth consecutive game -- a prime-time 38-33 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night.
Tommy Brasher, who coached the Eagles' defensive line in 1985 and again from 1999 to 2005, will replace Washburn.
"Jim is a fine football coach, and we appreciate the efforts he gave to this team over the past two years," Eagles coach Andy Reid said in a statement released by the team. "However, I determined that it was in the team's best interest that we move in a different direction in terms of trying to maximize the production of that position group. We look forward to having Tommy Brasher back on board to work with the defensive line."
It was the second major midseason shakeup on the Eagles' coaching staff this year: Former defensive coordinator Juan Castillo was fired in October and replaced by Todd Bowles.
Washburn reportedly was unhappy with Reid's decision to cut defensive end Jason Babin last week.
Washburn was in his second season with the Eagles. He was Tennessee Titans' defensive line coach from 1999 to 2010.
The Eagles are 3-9 this season.
