Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy has been cleared by an independent doctor and can return to game action, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported Monday.
"There's a chance he ends up playing for us this week," coach Andy Reid said during his radio show on WIP-AM. "We'll see how it goes with the practices this week. He practiced (Monday) and did well."
Honestly, there's no point in bringing McCoy back for two meaningless games. The Eagles are finding out what they have in rookie quarterback Nick Foles and should continue to do the same with rookie running back Bryce Brown. With the Eagles' luck this season, McCoy would come back and suffer a serious injury that lasts into the 2013 season. Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson blew out his knee during a meaningless game in late December last year.
"With Bryce, I just feel he needs to play," Reid said. "He didn't get a lot of college experience so he's catching up. he's catching up at the highest level of football you can catch up at. But I think when it's all said and done you're going to have a good, solid running back."
We understand guys are competitors and want to be out there for teammates, but there's just no upside to bringing McCoy back.
There's only risk.
Time to shut it down.
