It's become obvious that Tim Tebow's first season with the New York Jets will also be his last. But is his next destination already mapped out?
ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported Saturday that it's "a virtual certainty" Tebow will play for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2013.
The Jaguars have been floated as a potential destination for the quarterback before, and Tebow might be the most popular athlete to ever come out of the region. After acquiring Peyton Manning, the Denver Broncos worked out two potential landing spots for Tebow last March, giving the quarterback the choice between a trade to the Jets and Jaguars. Tebow chose New York, a decision that has backfired.
Mortensen reported that the Jets plan to honor Tebow's eventual request to be released. He would become an unrestricted free agent at that point.
On paper, Tebow would have a legitimate shot to re-establish himself as a starting quarterback with the Jaguars. Blaine Gabbert is approaching lost-cause territory, and Chad Henne is clearly not the answer. Jaguars owner Shad Khan wants to bring excitement to his franchise, and Tebow would provide it -- at least initially.
Tebow would sell tickets, and don't be surprised if this speculation originated out of the Jacksonville camp. Whether he'd actually help improve the meandering Jaguars is another discussion entirely.
