Andrew Luck officially is the most prolific rookie passer in NFL history.
The Indianapolis Colts quarterback broke Cam Newton's rookie passing yards record late in the second quarter of Sunday's 20-13 win over the Kansas City Chiefs with a 23-yard throw to fellow rookie T.Y. Hilton. Luck has 4,183 passing yards this season after throwing for 205 on Sunday.
The record only will renew the Offensive Rookie of the Year debate. The Colts locked up the AFC's No. 5 playoff spot with Sunday's win, and Luck owns the passing record. This after the Colts won just two games in 2011 and then completely remade their roster. But Luck's 18 interceptions and 54.6 completion percentage entering the game hurt his cause.
Robert Griffin III also could make the playoffs, but his Washington Redskins were much farther along than the Colts as a team. RG3, however, entered Sunday with 18 touchdown passes and just four interceptions. He also has the NFL's rookie quarterback rushing record.
Then there's Russell Wilson, who has shocked everyone by winning the starting job in Seattle, presumably leading the Seahawks to the playoffs and putting up good numbers in the process. Wilson, though, has the better surrounding cast in running back Marshawn Lynch and one of the NFL's top defenses.
The leader in this race seems to change weekly and will need all 17 weeks to be decided.
