Beanie Wells: My time with Arizona Cardinals is ending

When the Arizona Cardinals made Beanie Wells their first-round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, they thought they were getting a running back who would become a staple of their offense.

It never worked out that way. At the tail end of another injury-plagued season, Wells views Sunday's season finale against the San Francisco 49ers as an "audition for a job somewhere else."

"That's my mindset," Wells said Monday, via The Arizona Republic. "I'm just going to go out there and put my best foot forward for all the 31 other teams that's watching."

Other teams surely were watching last Sunday, when his fumble at his own goal line led to a Chicago Bears touchdown in a 28-13 loss.

Wells still has one more season left on his Cardinals contract, but he called the end of his time in Arizona "inevitable."

"You never expect things to unfold the way they do," he said, "but it's a part of life and you have to roll with the punches and adjust to them as they come."

It sounds to us like Wells wants out of Arizona, whether the Cardinals want him gone or not.
