The Oakland Raiders will start a quarterback not named Carson Palmer for the first time in 2012 this week. The question remains: Who?
Matt Leinart and Terrelle Pryorsplit first-team reps in practice Wednesday, the Contra Costa Times reported. Both received equal work during the portion of practice open to the media, and that was expected to continue during closed team periods, although Pryor told The Associated Press that Leinart received most of the reps.
"That two or three snaps I get, I'm happy with it because it's way more than I was getting," Pryor said, via The AP. "Today, I thought I did a fairly decent job. I commend Coach (Dennis) Allen and Coach (Greg) Knapp. They knew I wasn't ready. Still may not be. I'm just trying to work hard. I feel like I'm close."
Allen said both quarterbacks might play in Sunday's finale against the San Diego Chargers since Palmer, who suffered cracked ribs and a bruised lung last week, has been ruled out and won't even travel with the Raiders. Leinart has six years of experience and 18 starts, but he's unlikely to ever be a full-time NFL starter again.
Pryor is the unknown commodity. It would make sense for Allen and the franchise to get a glimpse of the second-year pro who had a dynamic career at Ohio State.
