The game of quarterback musical chairs continues for the New York Jets.
Jets coach Rex Ryan told reporters Thursday that Greg McElroy is being evaluated for a concussion and won't play Sunday. Instead, it will be Mark Sanchez under center in the Jets' season finale against the Buffalo Bills.
Ryan said McElroy developed headaches while lifting weights Thursday. McElroy acknowledged after going to trainers that he had concussion symptoms in the days following his start this past weekend against the San Diego Chargers, a game in which he was sacked 11 times.
Ryan was unaware McElroy was dealing with any head issues until Thursday morning. The coach clearly was perturbed by McElroy's lack of honesty, saying the quarterback wouldn't play regardless of how tests came back.
"I was stunned by it," Ryan said, via the New York Daily News. "I admire his courage and everything else, but you have to truthful."
More drama in Florham Park, but one thing doesn't change: Tim Tebow remains in the shadows. Ryan said Tebow was "obviously not happy" with the latest decision to bypass him in favor of Sanchez.
Perhaps starting Tebow in a meaningless game in Buffalo would've acted as an olive branch in their fractured relationship, but what would be the point? There's no chance Tebow will return to the Jets after this season. Sanchez himself is a question mark for 2013, but play the guy who still might have a future with the organization.
It's the best decision ... but not a fun one for Ryan.
