If Andy Reid winds up in Kansas City, he's planning to bring friends with him.
Reid plans to bring former Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles general manager Tom Heckert with him if he lands the Chiefs job, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported Thursday. Heckert's involvement is not a deal-breaker, however.
Still, we can't imagine that Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt would insist on Reid working with current GM Scott Pioli. The arrival of Reid and likely Heckert almost certainly would mean the end of Pioli's tenure in Kansas City. Even if Heckert wasn't involved, we had a hard time imagining Reid and Pioli working together. They come from very different backgrounds, and Pioli's current contract reportedly calls for final say on the Chiefs' roster. That doesn't fit with Reid.
Heckert was last with the Browns, but he previously worked with Reid in Philadelphia.
The Chiefs' situation, of course, remains fluid. But it's hard to imagine Pioli sticking around at this point.
