Matt Ryan is zeroed in on beating the San Francisco 49ers in Sunday's NFC title game, but whether or not the Atlanta Falcons advance to the Super Bowl, the team's starting quarterback appears in line for a major pay day.
Fox Sports insider and NFL Network contributor Jay Glazer reported Sunday that the Falcons have already talked about extending Ryan's contract after the season. According to Glazer, that deal will take on the look of a "mega-contract."
The Falcons have disappointed in the postseason in recent years, but Ryan has the full confidence of this organization. His 56-22 regular-season record includes a 13-3 mark in 2012, a campaign that saw Ryan play at an MVP level for much of the year.
Ryan's set to make $10 million in the final year of his contract in 2013. We wouldn't be surprised to see the 27-year-old starter land a multiyear deal worth close to $100 million. That's the price tag for an elite passer.
It would be a bitter disappointment for the Falcons if they crumbled Sunday, but Ryan's place in Atlanta appears secure for years to come.
