Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed will be a free agent after the season, and he isn't joining Ray Lewis in retirement. It's hard to imagine Reed in another jersey, but the New England Patriots and coach Bill Belichick have had an affinity for established veterans. At safety, Rodney Harrison comes to mind.
"I could definitely play for coach Belichick," Reed said, Fox Sports reported. "He is a great coach. I'm sure he can help me to expand my football knowledge even more as a player and as a coach, so if I'm ever able to be around him, just like I was at the Pro Bowl, it's huge."
Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome clued us in on Reed's coaching aspirations, so it's no surprise that he would want to pick Belichick's brain. We know Ravens fans don't want to hear this.
"It's the reason why I wear my sweater cut off a little bit," Reed said. "He's the first guy I saw like, 'That's cool.' You know, that's cool.
"Most people will tell you around the facility that's how I look. It's just a blessing to even have met, to know coach Belichick."
UPDATE: Reed clarified his comments to Boston Globe reporter Greg Bedard:
"Would I play for Coach Belichick? Yes. What football player wouldnt? Will I be in New England? Most likely not. It's just terrible that people get half the story. But it comes with it," Reed said.
