NEW ORLEANS -- As Robert Griffin III walked down the red carpet Saturday night at "NFL Honors," we couldn't help but study the quarterback's gait.
There was no noticeable limp, though a slight hitch could be detected. This is to be expected, considering the Washington Redskins star had reconstructive knee surgery just three weeks ago.
Griffin spoke with the media shortly after being named the 2012 Associated Press NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
"The knee is good," Griffin said. "I'm three weeks out, so to be able to walk around and do all this stuff, I'm pretty far ahead.
"I'm going to take it slow. My goal is Week 1, that's all I'm really worried about, so I'll make sure I'm ready to go."
Griffin said he had no regrets about trying to play through his knee injury in the Redskins' wild-card loss to the Seattle Seahawks. He has been rehabbing his knee twice a day, calling the sessions "great."
Around The League asked Griffin if he'll make changes to his playing style when he does return.
"Yeah, I think you will see a different version of me," he said. "I vowed to my teammates and to myself after my first injury (an ACL tear in 2009 while he was at Baylor) that I'd come back a better player, and that's what I plan to do after this one as well.
"You won't see the same Robert Griffin, you'll see a better Robert Griffin."
Griffin is an easy guy to root for. Let's hope he's right.
