INDIANAPOLIS -- Alec Ogletree arrived at the NFL Scouting Combine prepared to face the music.
The linebacker out of Georgia -- once seen as a sure-fire top-10 draft pick -- was charged with a DUI in Arizona last week and will spend his time in Indy answering questions about that incident, among others.
Ogletree told reporters Saturday that he already has met with the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs and called his talks with those organizations "a private conversation."
"I'm a good person at heart, and everybody makes mistakes," Ogletree said. "I feel really bad about the situation, but I'm learning from it and I'm moving forward."
Ogletree carries plenty of baggage into his NFL career. He was suspended for four games in 2012 by Georgia coach Mark Richt for failed drug tests. As a freshman, Ogletree was arrested and charged with theft after taking a Georgia track athlete's motorcycle helmet. The recent DUI charge now has teams questioning the risks surrounding an otherwise tantalizing pass-rushing prospect.
"I don't know what's it going to do (to my draft stock), but, like I said, I feel bad about it," Ogletree said. "I'm really sorry about it, but I just have to move forward and take whatever I can get."
Off-the-field headaches aside, somebody is likely to gamble on Ogletree before the first round wraps. Talented pass rushers are hidden gems, and more than a few teams believe they can handle what comes with the upside.
