Brandon Carr signed a five-year, $50.1 million free-agent deal with the Dallas Cowboys last offseason. One year later, the cornerback restructured the contract to convert most of his $14.3 million 2013 salary into a signing bonus.
"I restructured my contract basically just to free up some money to get some more players in," Carr told The Dallas Morning News on Friday. "I'm a team player. I believe in getting as many guys as possible that can help us get to our goal, and that's to win a championship.
"This is another step in the right direction, not only myself, but other guys restructured as well. That's a good sign that guys are willing to restructure their contracts in order to get new guys in or get better guys in to help us, hopefully, get a Super Bowl."
DeMarcus Ware, Jason Witten, Miles Austin and Ryan Cookalso restructured their contracts, for total salary-cap savings between $20 to $25 million. We'll see if it's enough for the team to keep pass rusher Anthony Spencer, who had a career-high 11 sacks in 2012.
