Ben Goessling of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported that Jennings was out to dinner Thursday night with Vikings defensive end Jared Allen, general manager Rick Spielman, coach Leslie Frazier and offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave.
Either Goessling had a very fortunate dinner reservation or he's
stalking
staking out the area like a pro. Spielman hilariously gave out depth-chart information on the way in. (New Vikings quarterback Matt Cassel was brought in as a backup to Christian Ponder, not as competition.)
Dinner is nice, but it's going to take dollars to get Jennings to sign in Minnesota. It's a fascinating potential deal because the Packers remain very much alive for Jennings. The future of tight end Jermichael Finley also could hang in the balance; he might be asked to take a pay cut if Jennings returns to Green Bay for big money.
As we saw with Wes Welker, these negotiations with proud veterans sometimes come down to respect. The Vikings are doing their best to show the love.
