The Tampa Bay Buccaneers indeed will retain cornerback Eric Wright after restructuring his contract Tuesday. They probably just won't keep him for long.

The team announced Wright signed a new one-year contract. His scheduled $7.75 million salary was voided after he was suspended late last year for violating the league's policy on banned substances. NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported that Wright's new contract is worth $1.5 million with a good chance to earn $3 million.
The Bucs are desperate for cornerback help and still need to add firepower. A trade for Darrelle Revis seems all but inevitable at this point, with Tampa Bay's No. 13 overall pick headed to the New York Jets. We'd expect the Bucs to invest in cornerbacks early and often in this draft even if they do pick up Revis, but the move to retain Wright gives them some flexibility.
Tampa Bay also announced the re-signing of backup quarterback Dan Orlovsky. Despite a lot of huffing and puffing from Greg Schiano, the Buccaneers haven't found any real competition for Josh Freeman this offseason.
