Oklahoma product Landry Jones was selected Saturday with the No. 115 overall pick, a move that should all but end Charlie Batch's career. The Steelers brought in Bruce Gradkowski as a veteran backup this offseason, and they were expected to bring Batch back into the fold if they didn't find a rookie in the draft. Instead, they had their choice of promising options, with Tyler Bray also on the board.
Jones has a good arm, but his best college season came as a sophomore. Still, he's a high-ceiling pick for a quarterback taken so late.
Jones' drafting comes just two weeks after his wife, Whitney Hand, was taken by the San Antonio Stars in the third round of the 2013 WNBA Draft. Pittsburgh is a perfect spot for Jones to learn, working under Roethlisberger and offensive coordinator Todd Haley. But it's not an ideal spot for his marriage. There are no direct flights between Pittsburgh and San Antonio.
