Hightower will meet with the Giants on Wednesday, the New York Daily News reported late Tuesday.

Hightower spent 2012 out of football after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament with the Washington Redskins in 2011.

Hightower, who scored 23 touchdowns and racked up 1,733 yards in three seasons with the Arizona Cardinals prior to the move to the Redskins, might provide the toughness and passing-down skills the Giants lost with the departure of Ahmad Bradshaw.

If the Giants decide to bring Hightower to minicamp, it will be to provide depth at running back, as David Wilson and Andre Brown are expected to get most of the touches early.

If Hightower reports healthy to the Giants, it might set up a battle for the backup position with Ryan Torain, Da'Rel Scott -- who also missed last season with a knee injury -- and seventh-round draft pick Michael Cox.
