Let's check in on the latest development in the New York Jets controversy that's not really a controversy at all.
On Wednesday, rookie quarterback Geno Smith floated a "no comment" when asked if he planned to attend Jets West, Mark Sanchez's annual summer gathering of skill players in his hometown of Mission Viejo, Calif.

The New York Jets' QB battle has started, but is it already over for Mark Sanchez? Kimberly Jones takes a look. **More ...**
Smith's clipped response allowed Lady Intrigue to dance into the room. The lady was shown her way out the door when Smith told reporters Thursday he didn't know what Jets West was.
Now, Smith appears to be on board.
"Sure, sure," Geno said about going, according to the New York Daily News.
"We haven't talked about it, but from my understanding, it's something that's done annually and all the guys go out there and it's been a great experience," he said. "Mark hasn't officially extended the hand to me, but I'm pretty sure there's no problem there."
Sanchez -- who said Wednesday that every skill player is invited -- probably should take 30 seconds to formally ask the rookie to join him. Or he can have Nick Mangold slip Smith a note in study hall. Whatever works.
