Miami Dolphins center Mike Pouncey declined to comment Sunday on wearing a "Free Hernandez" cap in support of Aaron Hernandez, his former University of Florida teammate, a week ago.
"I'm here to talk about football," Pouncey said after the Dolphins' first training-camp practice, via The Miami Herald. When asked when he plans to address the hat issue, Pouncey replied: "Once we get through football."
The third-year pro was photographed with his twin brother, Maurkice, during a birthday celebration, wearing the hats advocating for Hernandez, who currently is in jail on a murder charge.
Maurkice, who currently plays for the Pittsburgh Steelers, apologized the Monday after the photos became public.
Dolphins coach Joe Philbin declined to say if he pushed Mike Pouncey to apologize for wearing the hat.
"Any conversation I may or may not have had with Mike will stay internal," Philbin said. "I will tell you that it's important for every member of this organization -- player, coach -- to represent the Miami Dolphins in a first-class manner."
