The Washington Redskins' training-camp plan for Robert Griffin III and his knee gets clearer every day. Redskins coach Mike Shanahan confirmed Thursday that Griffin won't play in the preseason as expected, and the team won't let the quarterback fully practice for a few weeks.
Shanahan indicated that the goal is to get Griffin practicing at "full game tempo," but that might not happen for two to three weeks.
Griffin's progress from a torn anterior cruciate ligament has been remarkable this offseason, but we always expected the Redskins to exercise great caution in bringing him back into the mix. This timetable should not be a surprise or a major concern. (Griffin's timetable is one of the topics in our Around The League NFC East preview above.)
A greater worry for the team: Shanahan announced that defensive end Adam Carriker will be out four to five months after undergoing surgery for a torn quadriceps.
