Louisville QB Teddy Bridgewater takes out $10M insurance policy

Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater has taken out a $10 million insurance policy to guard against a career-ending injury, according to ESPN's Joe Schad.

The decision to do so could be the first hint of the junior quarterback's intentions to enter the NFL draft early. At the very least, it indicates he's thinking beyond his college playing days.

Insurance policies have become common for high-level draft prospects, and numerous analysts, including NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah, have ranked Bridgewater (6-feet-3, 198 pounds) as the top quarterback in the nation.

He threw for 3,718 yards, 27 touchdowns and eight interceptions last season, leading Louisville to an 11-2 mark that included an impressive victory over Florida in the Sugar Bowl. Bridgewater is the main reason his school will enter the 2013 season in most preseason top-10s and a prohibitive favorite to win the American Athletic Conference title.
