We're approaching the time when we'll have clarity on Percy Harvin. We're not there yet.
Asked about the possible outcomes for Harvin's hip injury, Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider told SiriusXM NFL Radio on Monday that "it's really a huge, huge spectrum, quite honestly."
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported last week that Harvin has a possible slight tear in the labrum of his hip.
"It could be something where he is out practicing within the next week-ish or it could be something like coach (Pete) Carroll was talking about where they do advise surgery and then depending on how they evaluate the situation, that determines how much time he would miss," Schneider said Monday in his first public comments on the issue (via The Seattle Times).
Up next for Harvin is a Tuesday trip to New York, where he'll meet with a hip specialist. Seahawks doctors don't believe the injury is season-threatening, but Harvin exercised his right to seek a second opinion.
Peter King wrote in his "Monday Morning Quarterback" column that the Seahawks have the opportunity to show they are different than the Minnesota Vikings, a team that Harvin grew to distrust. Showing their support in Harvin's wish for a second opinion might strengthen the relationship with the mercurial receiver.
"Percy's a confidence player -- he needs to feel good about his condition and himself," a Seahawks source told King. "This time should give him the best chance to feel right entering the season."
Unless, of course, the doctor in New York advises Harvin that season-ending surgery is needed to repair the hip. Seahawks fans should continue to keep their fingers crossed for another 24 hours.
