Denard Robinson will play all over the field during his rookie season, and he saw several snaps Monday in the Wildcat formation. Listed on the Jacksonville Jaguars' roster as an Offensive Weapon, the speedy former University of Michigan quarterback displayed his diversity in just three snaps.
Robinson ran once, handed off to Maurice Jones-Drew and threw a completion, according to The Florida Times-Union. Given that the Jaguars' quarterbacks threw eight straight incompletions under no duress, we'll put a tiny gold star on Robinson's pass.
Jaguars coach Gus Bradley said he likes the pressure put on defenses by having Robinson in the backfield, but ball security has been an issue.
"We did it in OTAs, and a couple of times, he ran the ball and fumbled the ball and he didn't know how to pitch," Bradley said. "We're not going to give up on that. (Offensive coordinator) Jedd's (Fisch) philosophy is to get it in the playmaker's hands, and we want to see if he's a playmaker and the threat he can give us."
Bradley said the Jaguars have yet to decide if or how they will deploy Robinson in the return game.
It will be interesting to see how the coaches deploy their designated OW as the season unfolds, especially with the NFL's shakiest quarterback situation.
