Alex Smith NFL's best QB, Kansas City Chiefs OC says

Abominable quarterback play was the chief reason the Kansas City Chiefs experienced a dreadful season in 2012.

Chiefs offensive coordinator Doug Pederson believes the franchise went from worst to first at the position with the addition of Alex Smith.

"Ultimately, every team has to have a quarterback," Pederson said Wednesday, per The Kansas City Star. "I think we have the best in the league."

Whoa, whoa, whoa. So, Mr. Pederson, Smith is better than Aaron Rodgers, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Matt Ryan ...?

"There are a lot of great ones," Pederson said. "But over time, Alex has proven he can get it done. He's a sharp guy, he brings a wealth of knowledge, he's experienced, he's a proven winner the last couple of years, and he needs a team to embrace him."

Ultimately, the team, especially the coordinator, should have the utmost confidence in its quarterback. There is no question Smith is an upgrade and will be the keystone to the Chiefs' season. However, hyperbole in these cases usually just means that the coach is going overboard to convince himself.
