Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne are listed as co-starters on the Jacksonville Jaguars' depth chart, but the higher draft pick remains the favorite to start the season at quarterback.
Coach Gus Bradley announced Thursday that Gabbert will start in the Jaguars' preseason openeragainst the Miami Dolphins on Friday night. Henne also will see playing time with the first-team offensive line.
This has been a closely contested battle throughout camp, with Henne perhaps playing slightly better so far. But Gabbert probably would have to faceplant in order to lose the job because of his status as the No. 10 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. The new Jaguars regime of Bradley and general manager David Caldwell didn't invest their own resources in Gabbert, but they need to make a decision about his future.
Bradley also said that Maurice Jones-Drew will sit outthe first preseason game as a precaution. MJD has enjoyed a healthy training camp to this point.
