USC wide receiver Marqise Lee appears to have avoided further injury after landing hard on his bruised shoulder during a mock game at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Wednesday.
Lee told reporters that he could have returned if it had been a real game and even raised his arm to show that no damage was done by the diving attempt to make a catch.
Lee was far more interested in the growing uncertainty over the Trojans' quarterback situation, as redshirt sophomore Cody Kessler struggled in what was supposed to be a dress rehearsal against the scout team defense.
Kessler was 13-of-22 for 218 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions, bringing his momentum from two previous scrimmages to a screeching halt. Max Wittek, who started two games last season, was 15-of-20 for 213 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions.
USC head coach Lane Kiffin said he needed to review the film before making a decision, meaning the Trojans enter game week for next Thursday's season opener at Hawaii without a starting quarterback named.
