Four more Aggies, 3 starters, suspended for Rice opener

Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin has joked with reporters that his team is so young, fans will need lineup flip cards to keep up Saturday against Rice.

Texas A&M has announced that CB De'Vante Harris, LB Steven Jenkins, DE Gavin Stansbury and WR Edwin Pope have been suspended not only for Saturday's game against Rice, but for next week's game against Sam Houston State as well. Jenkins was among the defense's top performers last season. Along with Jenkins, Harris and Stansbury were projected starters who now won't make their season debut until facing Alabama Sept. 14.

So just how short-handed are the Aggies against the Owls today? If you're keeping score on that flipcard, Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Johnny Manziel will sit the first half on suspension, as will starting cornerback Deshazor Everett for an unrelated reason. Defensive back Floyd Raven will miss the entire game, as will defensive lineman Kirby Ennis, on suspension as well.

That makes eight Aggies missing all or part of TAMU's season opener.
