Mitchell was injured while celebrating a 75-yard touchdown run by running back Todd Gurley. At the end of Gurley's touchdown run, Mitchell leaped to bump his teammate and landed awkwardly, which caused the injury, according to Richt.
His loss is a big one for the Georgia offense. He was the team's leading returning receiver. He made 40 receptions for 572 yards and four touchdowns last season despite playing about a month on the defensive side of the ball. Mitchell also provided Georgia with a strong presence as a return man, both punts and kickoffs.
The junior has vever redshirted, making him eligible for a medical redshirt this season. That would give him two more years of college eligibility at Georgia after this season.
Minus Mitchell, receivers Chris Conley and Michael Bennett figure to play a bigger role in the Georgia offense this season.
