Sunday was a nasty one for injuries. It included a ton of big names: Ray Rice, Reggie Bush, Maurice Jones-Drew, Steven Jackson and Eddie Lacy.
And that was just the running backs. We'll use this post to round up all the next-day news, updating it throughout Monday.
- Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz said that tests on Reggie Bush's knee injury "were encouraging." Schwartz also said Bush's injury won't be a long-term problem, but it could be "medium-term." Schwartz added that defensive tackle Nick Fairley's shoulder injury is "day to day." Fairley was inactive in Sunday's loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
- Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera confirmed that safety Charles Godfrey is expected to miss the season with a torn Achilles tendon. It's a big loss for a team already lacking safeties. Godfrey arguably was the most reliable player in a poor secondary.
- NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported, per a person who has spoken with the player, that Denver Broncos left tackle Ryan Clady has been diagnosed with a Lisfranc sprain that might sideline him for an extended period of time. In a worst-case scenario, the Broncos fear Clady's season could be over, according to Rapoport.
- Rapoport reported Broncos safety Duke Ihenacho has a mild ankle sprain, according to a source informed of the injury.
- Rapoport also reported that Kansas City Chiefs left tackle Branden Albert (shoulder) should be fine, even with the quick turnaround for Thursday night's game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Chiefs coach Andy Reid later confirmed the news.
- Atlanta Falcons coach Mike Smith announced that defensive end Kroy Biermann (Achilles) and fullback Bradie Ewing (shoulder) will be placed on season-ending injured reserve. Biermann is a key loss for a defense already short on lineman. He's a solid pass rusher who can handle a variety of roles. The Falcons are weak on the outside.
- Chicago Bears coach Marc Trestman told reporters Monday that tests on tight end Martellus Bennett's injured shoulder came back negative. "He's got a bruise but nothing significant and with full range of motion today," Trestman said. Bennett should be ready for the Pittsburgh Steelers on "Sunday Night Football."
- Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew left Sunday's game against the Oakland Raiders with an injury to his left ankle. According to the Jaguars' official Twitter account, Jones-Drew is dealing with a tendon strain and will have an MRI on Monday.
- Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Ray Rice's situation hasn't changed since Sunday night, when the running back was diagnosed with a hip flexor strain. Harbaugh said he's inclined to rest Rice all week and see how he feels on the weekend. Harbaugh doesn't believe the injury is "serious."
- San Diego Chargers wide receiver Malcom Floyd was carted off the field with a neck injury suffered during Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Rapoport reported Monday that Floyd is getting a second opinion but is out indefinitely, per a source who had been in contact with the player. Floyd will be in a neck brace for at least a week, Rapoport reported.
- Indianapolis Colts coach Chuck Pagano announced that an MRI on wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey's shoulder was negative. "DHB" should be back at practice by Thursday. Pagano said Heyward-Bey's ribs and back also are injured.
- Houston Texans coach Gary Kubiak confirmed wide receiver Andre Johnson suffered a concussion in Sunday's win over the Tennessee Titans. Kubiak said Johnson's status for Week 3 will be an "end of the week decision."
- Seattle Seahawks left tackle Russell Okung tore a ligament in his toe in Sunday's win over the San Francisco 49ers and is unlikely to play next week against the Jaguars, ESPN reported.
- Chargers linebacker Manti Te'o is set to practice Wednesday, according to U-T San Diego. The rookie hasn't practiced since he sprained his foot in the team's preseason opener.
