Injury roundup: Is Jets rookie Shaq Evans' season over?

The New York Jets drafted three receivers in May. One suffered a shoulder injury that could threaten his rookie season.

Rex Ryan called fourth-round pick Shaq Evans' injury "severe" on Tuesday. The wideout could end up on injured reserve, the coach admitted.

"Shaq Evans, his shoulder looks pretty bad," Ryan said, per the New York Daily News. "He's still out there in the (red non-contact) jersey, very limited. We'll see that how that goes but it doesn't look good right now. This looks like a severe injury."

Evans has good size and hands but lacked top-end speed that pushed him down some draft boards.

Here is other injury news we are tracking:

  1. In other Jets news, receiver Jeremy Kerley didn't practice with an illness, but is expected to be fine. Rookie safety Calvin Pryor, however, will not play in the team's preseason opener.
  1. Redskins wideout Pierre Garcon missed practice again on Tuesday. When asked by reporters if it was related to his hamstring, Garcon said it was "just football" but also noted he would miss Thursday's preseason game against the Patriots.
  1. The hits keep coming for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Safety Johnathan Cyprien and receiver Allen Hurns sat out with hip flexor injuries. Cyprien can be a dynamic playmaker. Luckily his injury doesn't sound serious: "It was a little tight so they decided to hold me out," Cyprien said, per The Florida Times-Union.
  1. Just as he was moving up the depth chart, Giants running back Peyton Hillis sprained his ankle on Tuesday. It isn't believed to be serious, but with the team's roster of rushers already depleted, the news isn't welcome.
  1. Chicago Bears receiver Marquess Wilson had surgery Tuesday after suffering a fractured clavicle on Monday. There is no timetable set for his return. The injury generally has a six to 10 week recovery period.
  1. Drew Brees remains day-to-day with an oblique injury. Coach Sean Payton didn't say whether the quarterback would play in this week's game. Oblique injuries can be tricky.
  1. Green Bay Packers backup offensive lineman Don Barclaysuffered a torn ACL. Barclay was a key reserve all along the line.
  1. Packers safety Morgan Burnett added an oblique strain to his ankle injury from last week. Green Bay rookie Ha Ha Clinton-Dix waits in the wings to start alongside Micah Hyde if Burnett stays out.
  1. Giants rookie Odell Beckham continues to miss practice with a hamstring injury, according to Tom Coughlin.
  1. Panthers OT Nate Chandler sat out of team drills, and he was seen with a knee brace on, per BlackandBlueReview.com. Chandler is in a battle to protect Cam Newton's blindside.
  1. Raiders tight end David Ausberry is reportedly having a procedure done on his knee Wednesday, according to coach Dennis Allen.
  1. In some positive news, Arizona Cardinals' hyped receiver John Brown returned to the practice field after missing time with a hamstring injury.
  1. Raiders corner DJ Hayden remains on the PUP list after surgery on his right foot, but coach Dennis Allen said this week he expects the No. 12 overall pick of the 2013 draft to play before the preseason ends.
  1. Cornerback Morris Claibornewill miss the Dallas Cowboys' preseason opener as he recovers from a sore tendon in his right knee, per The Dallas Morning News.
