It was all fun and games for the Denver Broncos during their 37-21 "Monday Night Football" victory over the Oakland Raiders.
The Broncos running backs got a little extra gaming in.
Early in the fourth quarter, with Denver already leading 30-14, Ronnie Hillman scampered for 19 yards, stretched for the end zone and came up short. The referees huddled to determine if Hillman scored.
As the refs deliberated, running backs Knowshon Moreno and Montee Ball lobbied Hillman to get the chance to run the ball in on the next play. So the three decided to play a game of rock-paper-scissors, with the winner getting the carry.
"We were just messing around on the sideline," Hillman said, per the Broncos' official website. "Just something to do. Have fun."
We have discrepancy on the official scoring: According to the Broncos, Hillman won choosing rock while Ball and Moreno went with scissors. USA Today reported that Hillman said Moreno was disqualified for throwing rock early, and Hillman's scissors trumped Ball's paper.
We officially have another big-time scoring controversy on our hands. We'll wait for Congress to interject itself into the situation (please, Internet, get sarcasm for once in your existence).
However it went down, Hillman won and plunged into the end zone.
See, NFL players aren't unlike our friends.
"That's just little stuff that people like to get on TV and have something to talk about," Fox said Tuesday. "Ronnie Hillman was going back in the game. That was just a little way to have fun, I guess. That wasn't official. Ronnie was running the ball. We decide that, not them."
