Is more NFL football coming to London?
On Monday, Ben Rumsby wrote in the Daily Telegraph that the managing director of Wembley Stadium, Roger Maslin, spoke openly about his desire to bring Wembley a Super Bowl.
"If they were bringing it anywhere in the world, we want it here," Maslin told the Telegraph.
The paper also said that NFL UK managing director Alistair Kirkwood was "in negotiations" to stage three regular-season games in London next year, up from this season's two games.
Kirkwood added that a permanent London franchise before the end of the decade is "possible" but not inevitable. He also said adding a London team would require approval by 24 NFL owners.
"I think the league should have aspirations to be global, and having a London franchise would be a great step toward it, but it would have to be under certain conditions," Kirkwood told the Telegraph, adding that one of those conditions would be "tripling" the NFL fan base in the United Kingdom.
The league issued a statement to NFL Media on Tuesday: "Our focus continues to be on playing more games in England, growing the fan base and creating the foundation for potentially having a team overseas in the future."
On Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers will take on the Minnesota Vikings at Wembley. On Oct. 27, Wembley will get a second NFL game when the San Francisco 49ers play the Jacksonville Jaguars.
