TCU defensive end Devonte Fields is closing the books on a disastrous 2013 and will undergo season-ending foot surgery, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

A Freshman All-American and Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year after posting 18.5 tackles for loss with 10 sacks last season, Fields never came close to showcasing that dominant form this season for myriad reasons. Fields was suspended for the opener against LSU after violating team rules and then was hurt in the Big 12 opener at Texas Tech.

Fields missed TCU's next game against SMU and played sparingly at Oklahoma, failing to record a tackle. Fields finished with four tackles with two tackles for loss in three games.

Fields can receive a medical redshirt because he played in less than 30 percent of TCU's games and has three seasons of eligibility of remaining.
