DeMarco Murray's MCL injury hurts Cowboys' run game

DeMarco Murray sprained the MCL in one of his knees during the second quarter of the Dallas Cowboys' 31-16 victory over the Washington Redskins. From then on Sunday, the Cowboys' running game just suffered.

"Yeah, DeMarco, that's going to be a tough loss," Tony Romo said, per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

It is not yet known how long Murray might be out, but every snap he misses is magnified.

Joseph Randle (11 carries for 17 yards) and Phillip Tanner (one carry for 2 yards) did nothing to prove they could shoulder the load sans Murray. At one point in the fourth quarter, the duo had just five carries for 5 yards -- and that was with the lead the entire game.

"We're playing well with (Murray)," executive vice president Stephen Jones said after the game. "There's a fall-off there, but I also thought it was nice for Randle to get in there and get his feet wet. I think it's only going to get better for him."

Randle showed little ability to create a crease in his first regular-season game. Whenever the Cowboys needed a drive, the offense spread out and let Romo pick apart the Redskins' secondary.

The Cowboys hope to get Lance Dunbar back soon, which should help. But the truth remains: As long as Murray is out, for better or worse, it's the Tony Romo show in Dallas. Brace yourselves, Cowboys fans.
