Green Bay Packers' Randall Cobb could miss six weeks

The Green Bay Packers received mixed news on the injury front Monday.

Coach Mike McCarthy announced that James Jones has a chance to play in Sunday's game versus the Cleveland Browns. A source who spoke with Jones told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport that the wide receiver's injury is a PCL sprain.

The outlook wasn't as rosy for fellow receiver Randall Cobb, who might be out multiple weeks, according to McCarthy. Rapoport reports, via two people briefed on the injury, that Cobb "could miss six weeks" with a fractured fibula.

Jarrett Boykin, who caught just one of six targets for 43 yards Sunday, is the next man up.

It's a major downgrade for Aaron Rodgers and the passing game. In addition to posting one of the league's highest catch percentages since taking over as the primary slot receiver early last season, Cobb has also been among the most dangerous threats with the ball in his hands.

This offense will have to lean on rookie Eddie Lacy, who just became the first Packers rookie since John Brockington in 1971 to rush for at least 99 yards in back-to-back games.

Wide receiver isn't the only position at which the Packers' depth will be tested.

Outside linebacker Clay Matthews already is sidelined for at least a month with a broken thumb. Now, McCarthy has ruled out 2012 first-round draft pick Nick Perry for Week 7. Unconfirmed reports state the pass rusher's injury is a broken foot, which would keep him out for multiple games.

Although Jamari Lattimore impressed Sunday in relief of inside linebacker Brad Jones, the depth on the outside is dicey.

The Packers will be shorthanded on both sides of the ball, which is welcome news for Browns coach Rob Chudzinski.
