West Virginia athletic director Oliver Luck has emerged as the clear frontrunner for the same position at Texas, OrangeBloods.com reported Monday.
Luck could be interviewed this week to replace outgoing AD DeLoss Dodds, whose retirement was first reported by OrangeBloods.com. Barring any unforeseen developments, a contract for Luck to take over all Longhorns men's athletics could be finalized when the UT Board of Regents meets in November.

Luck, who played quarterback for the Houston Oilers and is the father of Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, has numerous qualities that would be appealing to UT president Bill Powers. Luck attended law school at UT, has extensive ties throughout the state of Texas -- including a stint as the president and general manager of the Houston Dynamo of the MLS -- and the Big 12 as the man in charge of Mountaineers athletics since 2010.
Luck will also serve on the selection committee for the College Football Playoff that will begin next season.
And while it looked as if the first act for Dodds' successor would be replacing head coach Mack Brown, UT has staged a remarkable turnaround and is undefeated in conference play.
Brown has reportedly told prominent boosters that he would like to return in 2014 if UT wins at least a share of the Big 12 title this season, a thought that seemed laughable after disastrous losses to BYU and Ole Miss.
