The Miami Dolphins' locker-room scandal already has cost the team two starting offensive linemen, and it might cost coach Joe Philbin and general manager Jeff Ireland their jobs.
It also might inspire new legislation from the NFL. League sources told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport to expect the NFL to take a hard look at hazing, with the possibility of offering legislation to spell out what is acceptable and what is not.
"The league has addressed the team culture for several years in a variety of ways, with initiatives aimed at fostering professionalism and proper conduct in the locker room and at the facilities with conduct training," Rapoport reported. "They give players professional development instruction and thoroughly use Player Engagement services.
"The goal will be to understand what is happening in locker rooms before coming up with a league-wide view."
Some coaches do not allow hazing of any kind on their teams, which seems like a smart (and fairly obvious) policy to have. Look for the league to take action on the issue officially at some point.
