The Kansas City Chiefs will have their best wide receiver on the field for Sunday's crucial division matchup against the Denver Broncos.
Wide receiver Dwayne Bowe will start despite being arrested on charges of speeding and marijuana possession over the weekend, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported, citing a team source. ESPN first reported the news.
The NFL will review Bowe's situation for potential discipline after the legal process has run its course. Until that point, under the collective bargaining agreement, the Chiefs cannot punish Bowe for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.
While Bowe's play has been a big disappointment this season, the veteran is coming off his most productive game, Week 9 against the Buffalo Bills, where he finished with seven receptions for 67 yards. Bowe was targeted 12 times in the win, by far his most of the season.
In the biggest matchup of Week 11, the Chiefs need Bowe to put up his best game to keep up with Peyton Manning and the Broncos' steamrolling offense.
UPDATE:Chiefs coach Andy Reidaddressed the matter Wednesday, per Fox Sports 1. "It is a legal matter and that's the way we'll handle it," Reid said. "Let it run its course there. Dwayne will play, he'll start."
Bowe also released a statement regarding the situation, obtained by Fox Sports 1:
"I apologize to the Hunt Family, Coach Reid, my teammates and Chiefs fans for the distraction I have caused the team this week. Due to the nature of the pending matter, I am unable to make any further comment on the situation."
