Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray is finishing a record-breaking career with the Bulldogs, but his NFL future could be more as a roster-maker than as a record-breaker, an AFC scout told NFL Media reporter Albert Breer.
"Half the league will see him as a starter," the scout said. "The other half will see him as a backup."
Murray has completed 174 of 275 passes this year for 2,477 yards, 20 touchdowns and only seven interceptions. That production has come in spite of a slew of injuries to his primary weapons, including a season-ending knee injury to top receiver Malcolm Mitchell and an ankle injury that shelved star running back Todd Gurley for a month. Murray has an SEC record 115 touchdown passes entering this week's game against Auburn.
His size, however, is a question mark at 6-1, 208 pounds, and the AFC scout said he isn't enamored with Murray's arm strength, either.
"Backup quarterback in the league. Short, average arm and a good college quarterback," the scout added. "He can start in stretches but would be better as a backup."
NFL Media draft analyst Gil Brandt ranks Murray as the draft's 17th-best senior.
