Picture the Minnesota Vikings. Now picture them minus Adrian Peterson.
Not a pretty sight.
The Vikings' star running back didn't practice Wednesday after suffering a right mid-foot sprain in Sunday's loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Making matters worse, coach Leslie Frazier announced that backup Toby Gerhart also would miss the session.
"(We're) hoping to have them practice on Friday," said Frazier, who expressed more optimism for Gerhart's tweaked hamstring than Peterson's injury ahead of Sunday's meeting with the Philadelphia Eagles.
If neither can make it back in time for Week 15, Chip Kelly's defense will be charged with slowing down the little-used Matt Asiata, who hasn't registered a statistic since plowing for 67 yards on 19 carries during preseason play.
Fullback Jerome Felton is another option for carries, but the absence of Minnesota's top two backs would all but cripple the team's already lacking offense. We'll keep an eye on this.
