If Donte Moncrief wants to enter the NFL draft early, he picked a good game on which to finish his college career.
Moncrief caught six passes for 113 yards and a touchdown to lead Ole Miss to a 25-17 win over Georgia Tech on Monday in the Music City Bowl in Nashville, Tenn. It may have been the last college game for one of the most prolific receivers in Rebels history.
Moncrief is considering early NFL draft entry and has said he will rely heavily on the advice of Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze with the decision. He finished the season with 938 yards on 59 receptions, with six touchdowns. Monday's performance marked the ninth 100-yard receiving game of Moncrief's Ole Miss career, and his 20th touchdown catch ranks him third in school history.
Moncrief's one blunder was a fumble at the end of his longest reception of the day, but a recovery by fellow wide receiver Laquon Treadwell gave the junior a reprieve.
Ole Miss quarterback Bo Wallace passed for 256 yards and rushed for another 86 to lead the Rebels, despite the absence of standout freshman left tackle Laremy Tunsil, who missed the game with an injury. Three of Ole Miss' top defenders -- Nkemdiche brothers Denzel and Robert and junior NFL prospect Cody Prewitt -- did not start, reportedly because of disciplinary reasons. Prewitt was later knocked out of the game on a vicious crackback block while defending Georgia Tech's triple-option offense.
