The last name Griffey is synonymous with athletic excellence, so it shouldn't be a surprise that Trey Griffey is picking up where his father and grandfather left off, albeit on the football field and not the baseball diamond.
Griffey caught the first two touchdowns of his career in Arizona's AdvoCare V100 Bowl rout of Boston College. The 6-foot-3, 191-pound redshirt freshman had scoring receptions of 26 and 3 yards, with his dad Ken Griffey Jr. -- the 13-time Major League Baseball All-Star, 10-time Gold Glove winner and 1997 American League most valuable player -- on the sideline possessing some professional-caliber camera equipment.
Those are exactly the kinds of plays Griffey will have to make to carve out a more permanent role in the Arizona receiving corps next season. The Wildcats get Austin Hill, who had 81 receptions for 1,364 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns in 2012, back from a torn ACL, and talented transfers DaVonte' Neal and Cayleb Jones will be eligible to play. Add in freshmen contributors Samajie Grant and Nate Phillips, that's a lot of receivers to fit into the rotation.
But when it comes to athletic ability, there can be no doubting The Kid's kid.
