Clemson wide receiver Sammy Watkins will enter the NFL draft and skip his final year of college, according to Yahoo! Sports.
The report cited multiple unnamed sources. Watkins' decision continues to deepen the wide receiver pool for the May 8-10 draft, which has already been boosted this week by other declaring underclassmen, including Texas A&M receiver Mike Evans, Southern California receiver Marqise Lee and Oregon State's Brandin Cooks.
Watkins had two spectacular seasons in three years at Clemson, sandwiching freshman and junior campaigns that were well in excess of 1,000 yards around a sophomore slump in 2012. Watkins had 12 touchdowns this season and capped his career Friday with a career-best 16-catch, 227-yard performance against Ohio State in Clemson's 40-35 Orange Bowl victory.
For his Clemson career, Watkins made 240 catches for 3,391 yards and 27 touchdowns.
Watkins (6-foot-1, 205 pounds) has explosive initial quickness and could be an effective return specialist at the next level as well.
