Veteran cornerback Dunta Robinson signed a three-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs before last season, but he won't last more than one.
Robinson was released Friday, according to the Chiefs' official website. In a corresponding move, Kansas City signed wide receiver Weston Dressler.
Due $3.2 million in 2014, Robinson still takes away $3.9 million in guaranteed money after signing a weighty $13.8 million pact last March. Added to the roster to bring rock-solid depth to Kansas City's defense, Robinson wound up as a little-used slot corner who finished the campaign as the 167th-ranked player at his position by Pro Football Focus. Opposing signal-callers mounted a troubling 113.8 passer rating throwing at Robinson over nine appearances.
His season closed in ugly fashion as the 31-year-old defender was scorched by Colts wideout T.Y. Hilton in Kansas City's wild-card loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
After years spent anchoring secondaries for the Houston Texans and Atlanta Falcons, Robinson finished the season as an overpriced piece of the puzzle for a Chiefs defense that would rather give snaps to young Marcus Cooper and whomever they snatch up in May's draft.
