Redskins TE Fred Davis charged with driving while intoxicated

Washington Redskins tight end Fred Davis was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated Thursday, the Fairfax (Virginia) County Police Department confirmed to NFL Media.

This comes only one day after Davis was suspended indefinitely by the NFL on Wednesday for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

A Fairfax County Police Department officer told NFL Media that the 28-year-old Davis was arrested and charged with DWI around 3:45 p.m. ET Feb. 20, near the intersection of Gallows Road and Leesburg Pike.

"I'm disappointed for Fred," general manager Bruce Allen told a group of reporters Friday at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. "We really can't comment on the suspension because that's a league matter with Fred. But I heard, like everyone else about what happened yesterday, and that's disappointing."

Allen declined to comment on the tight end's future.

"It's too early because I don't know the details of what happened yesterday," Allen said. "There's always a different side to the story. Unfortunately we're not able to talk to Fred, because of the suspension. But, he is a resilient guy. He had to overcome a hurdle a few years ago, and he did it. He got injured and he worked hard to come back, and so it's up to Fred what his future holds."

Davis, a 2008 second-round pick of the Redskins, played in only 10 games in 2013, tallying 70 yards. In six seasons for the Redskins, Davis has accumulated 162 receptions for 2,043 yards and 13 touchdowns.
