NFL Media draft analyst Mike Mayock said Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater's decision not to work out at the NFL Scouting Combine is "kind of silly," but Mayock still is high on Bridgewater's potential.
On the NFL Network's combine coverage Sunday, Mayock said Bridgewater is the "most NFL-ready" quarterback in the draft. "I think [UCF's Blake] Bortles can be ready shortly thereafter," Mayock said.
Mayock said there are durability issues related to Bridgewater's frame. But he also said Bridgewater can do all the necessary things from under center and in the shotgun.
"I love the accuracy on the run," Mayock said.
After showing some Bridgewater tape, Mayock said Bridgewater had shown "pretty much everything you want to see" in the highlights.
Mayock also said Bridgewater should appeal to the Houston Texans, who have the No. 1 pick in the draft. He said new Texans coach Bill O'Brien's background was with "old-school, traditional quarterbacks," and Bridgewater fits that mold.
