The Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles have scheduled former Texas A&M wide receiver Mike Evans for visits, Evans told College Football 24/7 on Tuesday.
Projected by all of NFL Media analysts' mock drafts to be the second wide receiver drafted in May after Clemson's Sammy Watkins, Evans helped to strengthen his draft value last month at the NFL Scouting Combine with a 4.53 40-yard dash clocking at 6-5, 231 pounds. He has visited previously with the San Francisco 49ers and New England Patriots, both clubs that would almost certainly be required to trade up in the first round for a chance to add Evans.
Asked Tuesday where he was hearing he'd be drafted, Evans said, "I've been told no lower than 15."
Barring a trade, the Lions figure to have the most realistic chance of the clubs he has already visited or has current plans to visit. Detroit holds the No. 10 overall pick and reportedly has strong interest in Watkins as well. Despite the presence of an elite pass catcher in Calvin Johnson, NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah has identified wide receiver as a position of need for Detroit, which last month released its second-leading wide receiver, Nate Burleson. Analysts across the board, however, are projecting Detroit to take Oklahoma State cornerback Justin Gilbert at No. 10.
Evans posted back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in his only two years playing at Texas A&M -- 1,105 in 2012, 1,394 in 2013 -- as the primary target for star quarterback Johnny Manziel.
