The team on Thursday announced the signing of free-agent cornerback Mike Jenkins to a one-year pact, giving the Bucs a veteran addition with starting experience gained during stints with the Dallas Cowboys and Oakland Raiders.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported that Jenkins will make a base of $1.5 million and up to $2 million in incentives.
Jenkins joins a cornerback room that includes second-year man Johnthan Banks and the recently signed Alterraun Verner. Jenkins also will bring familiarity with Lovie Smith's beloved Tampa 2 defense after the cornerback played in a similar scheme during his college days at South Florida.
Chalk it up as a low-risk addition and another veteran piece of the puzzle for a Bucs team that fields, on paper, one of the NFC's nastiest, young defensive rosters.
