The team on Thursday announced the signing of free-agent cornerback Mike Jenkins to a one-year pact, giving the Bucs a veteran addition with starting experience gained during stints with the Dallas Cowboys and Oakland Raiders.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported that Jenkins will make a base of $1.5 million and up to $2 million in incentives.

Jenkins joins a cornerback room that includes second-year man Johnthan Banks and the recently signed Alterraun Verner. Jenkins also will bring familiarity with Lovie Smith's beloved Tampa 2 defense after the cornerback played in a similar scheme during his college days at South Florida.

The former Pro Bowl selection started 48 games over five seasons with the Cowboys and another 15 for the Raiders in 2013. He struggled in Oakland against the pass, but gave the Silver and Black a strong presence against the run.

Chalk it up as a low-risk addition and another veteran piece of the puzzle for a Bucs team that fields, on paper, one of the NFC's nastiest, young defensive rosters.
