Bill O'Brien says No. 1 draft pick remains 'wide open'

The Houston Texans' presence at Jadeveon Clowney's pro-day workout was predictable enough on Wednesday, given that the former South Carolina defensive end could well be the draft's most prolific talent, and that the club holds the top pick.

Nevertheless, the level of interest the club showed in Clowney was palpable, according to those on hand.

Head coach Bill O'Brien was reserved in his words, anyway, saying Clowney had "a good day", and that the No. 1 pick is still "wide open," according to the Twitter feed of The State's Josh Kendall. O'Brien also reportedly said the club "may" bring Clowney in for a private workout, which the Atlanta Falcons and St. Louis Rams have already scheduled with the star pass rusher.

Then, there was this...

And this ...

And finally this, about the Texans' defensive coordinator's interest in the workout...

Reportedly, club officials and Clowney had dinner Tuesday night, as well.

So to say Houston is interested in Clowney is about as obvious as Clowney saying he'd be interested in being the No. 1 pick. Picking Clowney No. 1 overall certainly wouldn't be hard; what might be hard is picking him over a quarterback, when the club has more of a need at that position.

The Texans have 37 more days to make up their minds. But the clock won't move any slower from here.
